KPOP From a Twin's perspective

Alright, this is going to be a whole different post compared to my last one where I talked about daydreaming. Mostly because this time, I'll be talking about an interest that I have which is kpop. I have always been asked about my reason for listening to kpop whenever I bring it up to my friends or they find out that I like it. Of course this normally causes me to not mention kpop to a new friend unless I see they are a fan of kpop or they moved on from the new friend phase and onto a good friend.

What is Kpop?

I don't think kpop needs much of an introduction because of the popularity that some groups have gone to. BlackPink, BTS, AESPA, Twice, and a whole lot more. But to those who aren't familiar with the genre, it's basically korean pop/popular music, at least that's how google worded it.

The Content

I'll say that the first time I heard Kpop was from my cousin who should me and my brother a song from the group Twice. I forgot the song which she showed us but although I liked the instrumentals, the song never captured me as much as it did with my brother. Let's say he instantly fell in love with the group, although he isn't as interested as he used to be, the group is still an interest to him.
My relationship with kpop never started until, I want to say December of 2019 when my cousins were playing Just Dance on the switch and one of them, which was the same one as I mentioned in the beginning, suggested the song Kill this Love from BlackPink. The song immediately caught my attention with the loud introduction of instrumentals and the vocals.
Later that day, I got curious as to how the other songs sounded from the group and I instantly became a fan with the use of instrumentals, vocals, and especially some of their slow songs like Hope Not.

However, this was the beginning of a never ending rabbit hole for me. After finding this group, I wanted to search for others. It was sort of a rush or like a feeling of walking into a candy store as a kid. A whole new genre I found with loads of artist that I could listen to. I ended up finding G-Idle, Itzy, and Dreamcatcher as groups that I also liked.
Around this time was also when I discovered kpop albums and photocards. Needless to say, I was on some sort of kpop fever and I understood how the fanbase gets the stereotype of over attached fans.

But, that's not to say that you should stay away from this genre of music. I feel kpop gets a bad name because of weird fans that go beyond. I'll say that since 2019, I only really follow two groups which is BlackPink and Rolling Quartz. BlackPink fills the void of a modern group with feels of edm and pop music while Rolling Quartz is a fairly new group in the krock and kpop genre with a small yet dedicated fan base. It's the connection that some groups have with their fans that also keep me up to date with these two groups.

I always get asked a question as to how I'm able to listen to songs that I don't understand whenever I meet a new friend and I think the main reason comes from the fact that it's simply just music to me. There are songs that give off that emotion, especially artist like Frank Ocean and his blond album, but at the end of the day, I listen to kpop while out on my daily run or doing weightlifting/strength exercises along with late night 3am thoughts or on the train ride to school.
If this post has given you the thought of listening to kpop groups or artists, branch out and see what you could find. Or maybe some of you are also kpop fans, whether that be hardcore fans or light fans like me.
